Pipeline Operator/Technician

Position Summary:

Responsible for the operations and maintenance of transmission and gathering pipeline systems. Ensures the pipeline system is operated in compliance with all company policies and procedures and applicable local, state and federal rules and regulations. Coordinates maintenance and operations with the foreman for the pipeline system within the company. Ensures the pipeline is set up, operated and maintained. A clear commitment to safety is a requirement.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures a safe working environment
  • Proactively schedules and performs routine pipeline maintenance and operations. Activities include patrols, valve maintenance, filter changes, pigging (limited), gauging condensate tanks, and glycol dehydrator operations and maintenance.
  • Conducts routine monitoring and inspection of pipeline assets. Activities include performing facility inspections and documenting operating conditions (i.e., pressures, temperatures, volumes) to insure a high level of reliability. Reviews data collected in an effort to identify potential operational issues related to pipeline assets.
  • Performs troubleshooting, analysis and work order creation for operational issues. Activities include troubleshooting operational issues with dehydration units, regulators, relief valves, dump valves, actuators, level controllers, pressure controllers and other pipeline-related equipment.
  • Routinely interfaces with 3rd party contractors to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities. Activities include working with Gas Control to schedule outages for completion of maintenance activities.
  • Understands EHS / O&M procedures and recognizes when company procedures need to be followed for specific maintenance and operational activities. Such activities include implementation of LOTO procures and Safe Work Permits.
  • Respond to emergencies, such as leaks or ruptures, following established protocols
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all activities conducted

  • Mechanically inclined
  • Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve issues that may arise during the operation of a pipeline, may use problem-solving skills to identify and repair leaks, repair or replace damaged pipelines and troubleshoot issues
  • Adaptable to the changing needs of clients and regulatory agencies
  • Organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task, and prioritize multiple projects/tasks in order to adhere to deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to professionally communicate effectively
  • Self-directed, resourceful, and ability to problem solve with effective and timely follow through

  • Ability to use various computer systems, including Microsoft Office especially, with high levels of proficiency

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3+ years directly related experience
  • Valid State Driver's License
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail

Desired but not Required:

  • 5+ years of directly related experience as a pipeline operator
  • Possession of Operator Qualifications for most pipeline-related covered tasks
  • Basic knowledge in the overall operations, maintenance and troubleshooting of pipeline-related equipment
  • Knowledge of cathodic protection/corrosion control activities
  • Able to troubleshoot pipeline operational issues and establish priorities with minimal supervision
  • Able to perform scheduled and un-scheduled pipeline-related tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Possesses analytical, communication, and general mechanical skills

Work Environment:

Requires routine travel primarily via automobile to remote locations throughout the system to monitor operations equipment and activities (some overnight trips required). Potential for on-call work. Workday usually begins by 6:30AM. Must be able to move about on foot and follow safety and emergency response procedures. Requires lifting of equipment and supplies weighing over fifty (50) pounds. Requires ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and near equipment with high noise levels.

Pay: $32.00 - $45.00 per hour
